My daughter is a superhero. She saves lives.

Dear Cora,

We are doing it! We’re saving lives. We’re making a difference. You made Mommy and Daddy so proud this week.

Just read this tweet from a wonderful woman, and blogging friend, who recently gave birth:

See, we’re getting the word out and helping others. How cool is that?

Daddy and I cried when I read that to him. We cried tears of joy. Her original message was spread all over by several others. Many others pledged to also get their baby a pulse oximetry test. A pulse oximetry test isn't the only answer, but it's a start.

The test is super cheap, non-invasive, quick, and some estimate might catch up to fifty percent of congenital heart defects. You had an unknown congenital heart defect. That's what took your life at five days old. One day every baby will get a pulse oximetry test thanks to you. We work toward that goal. And, then we'll keep working for more research and new tests.

I’ve been telling EVERYONE I can about you. I’ve been telling them how out of this world beautiful you were and how much you’ve taught me. I share everything I learn. I don’t hold anything back anymore.

One baby at a time Cora. We ARE making a difference.

No more “I hope to” or “one day.” We ARE doing big things baby girl.

I fight for you always.

Love,
Mom

P.S. Tomorrow is your one month birthday. We have big plans to celebrate, but I don’t want to ruin the surprise! I’ll write to tell you about it here tomorrow night so you and the rest of the world can see how we remembered you.
