Some mother and daughter time *UPDATED* How you can celebrate Cora's birthday, too!

See mommy writes to you all over the place. This is in St. Petersburg, Florida.
Dear Cora,

Big sigh. Deep breath in and out.

Feels SO good to write to you. I’m sorry it’s been so long. Mommy thinks about you and works for you constantly. I haven’t been neglecting you. I promise. I think of things to do for you all the time.

Daddy had a bit of an accident. Don’t you worry! He’s going to be fine. He’s still in the hospital. See, this hospital isn’t like the ones that treated you when you were born and when you died. This hospital treats a lot of needy people on very little funding. So the level of care and compassion just isn’t the same. But, don’t you worry about me or Daddy. He’s going to get a big surgery next week, and I know you’ll be with him.

The health care system needs some work. Mommy is just too exhausted from fighting day in and day out for daddy to even talk about that right now. But, one day, she’s going to explain everything to you in a nice long letter. Just know Mommy is working very hard to make sure Daddy gets what he needs. We’re in a strange city, away from home. Sometimes I feel like we’re in a different country. So much need. So many homeless desperate people. So many sad stories. Mommy and daddy feel like the lucky ones!

Your three month birthday is coming up on March 30. After staying with Daddy in the hospital, we know how we’re going to celebrate.
  • A friend of yours started this event on Facebook asking people to wear pink. The event was a surprise to Mommy and so sweet. I’ll be in pink as well other people across the country.
  • Hospitals are boring places. We’re going to help adults that don’t have visitors or family like mommy to take care of them while in the hospital. We’re creating a few care packages with paper and pens and crossword puzzles and get well soon cards to give out. I got the idea after we asked for a pen and paper one night. Apparently, none were available for us. I thought of all those people just stuck there. By doing this, you’ll brighten their day and make a difference! What an awesome birthday for you.

Mommy is trying her best to take care of you, but can’t lie. She’s exhausted. Drained. Never felt so exhausted her entire life. She’s always here for you. Always going to fight and take care of you.

She has so many updates for you when Daddy gets out of the hospital and mommy and daddy FINALLY make it home. So many good things happening in your name. But, for now, Mommy has to muster up all her strength to fight for daddy while still fighting for you. It’s a hard job, but Mommy is so lucky to have the best daughter in the world.

Love,
Mom

UPDATE: People are so kind and quite a few people have asked how they can help with the care packages. I'm including things like pens and paper and crossword puzzles because at county hospitals getting even a pillow can be difficult much less a pen. If you have anything you'd like to donate for people in the hospital without visitors, ship it to the following address:
Kristine Brite McCormick
715 Washington St
No. 5
Decatur, Indiana 46733
Sitting in the hospital for the past week has taught me Ben and I are lucky people. We have each other. We had the means to buy basic necessities at least. So many are stuck in hospitals and not as luck as we are. Even if you can't afford to purchase anything, draw a pretty picture with your children and ship it to me, it could mean so much.
