The fine print
I'm writing this entire post in obnoxious, hard to read, not-so-fine, print.
Why?
It's important to us (Cora's parents, Ben and Kristine) to keep her name, legacy, and work pure and our intentions and motivations known.
We don't have a non-profit background. Kristine has a degree in journalism, but has worked in the non-profit sector in public relations. Ben is a hands on and math guy. He's our numbers man.
We don't have the traditional background, but we know we're the people to do this. We know we can't let mothers and fathers be blindsided by CHD anymore. They can't learn about it from the coroner.
So, we're going slow. We're building an organization, we're telling Cora's Story over and over.
Why am I bringing this up? We've opened up to donations in Cora's name. After Cora died, many offered. We refused unless the donator was well aware any donations weren't for Cora, or Cora's work. Now we're ready. Right now, 100 percent of anything donated goes directly to Cora's mission. Directly to saving and improving lives. In the future, as we grow, a portion of that will go to administrative costs and the fees of running an organization. But, we're going slow all in an effort to make that number stay as close to 100 percent as possible. We'll let you know when anything changes. We're using our own money for things like a trip to Washington D.C. for Lobby Day next week. One day, we Kristine will do this full-time and get a salary, but we're holding out until we need to reimburse her. Now, we both just volunteer our time.
We're building something solid. Cora is saving lives. Cora's legacy will last.
No one has doubted us publicly. Or even doubted us that we know of. That's not what this post is about. This post is about building a foundation with you, all of the wonderful people that are helping us save and improve lives.
As for this blog, any advertisement funding doesn't go directly to her foundation. It goes to us. But, frankly, we don't actively advertise and haven't seen a penny in our accounts from any of this. This blog isn't about making money. We do try to attract traffic, to tell her story.
Your donations are NOT tax exempt, yet. We're working on it.
We have received products for free. So far, nothing mentioned on the blog. Should we chose to thank the person that gives us that product on our blog, we'll let you know it was free, and tell the story of how we got the product, if it was offered, or if I sought out the company. But, this isn't a review blog. This isn't a product blog.
Ummm... I think that's it. If you ever have questions, ask. kbrite@gmail.com You can even ask anonymously, here: http://www.formspring.me/kristinebrite
We're protecting Cora's name, legacy, and pretty little face like the protective and loving parents we are.
We're doing this the right way. And, we're doing it all in the open.
Whew, I feel better after getting that out. I'm so excited, scared, and hopeful all at once to start this organization. And, know that I'll do a good job because I feel all of those at once. And, for the millionth time, thanks for ALL your help.
